The Healthy Approach
Lawn care services are often lumped into two broad categories, Organic and Non-Organic. With the active green movement pressing for environmental safety, the pressure is on to find organic alternatives to traditional chemical controls. Unfortunately, the “Non-Organic” designation is all too often applied broadly to anybody who uses pesticides at any level. In reality, there are huge differences between those who use pesticides to bash any and all critters into submission, and those of us who use a broad spectrum approach that includes organics, cultural approaches like aeration, introduction of naturally strong grass varieties, and judicious use of carefully selected control products.
Since our inception, we have taken great pride in promoting the health and growth of your grass as far more important than the complete control of weed or insect pests. We have actually lost several clients over the years due to our refusal to apply certain pesticides upon their request. If it’s not needed and the damage will be manageable or minimal, we won’t apply it. Conversely, we know of several local businesses who actively promote and apply fungicides on a preventative basis to keep any chance of fungal disease at bay. Unfortunately, this is the horticultural equivalent to you taking heavy doses of antibiotics to prevent yourself from ever getting sick. Not only will it not work long term, you are actually causing active harm.
We also offer an organic lawn service program, which we would be happy to propose to you if you’d like. That said, we felt that it was important to stress that we have always taken a healthy approach, and we have always strived to treat your lawn and the environment properly.
